Where to Start[]

If you have any questions, please contact someone here.

When you create a New Page at the top corner (three dots), that page will be blank. Below is information on how to start your new profile for Serial Killer Profiles. If you create a New Page and use the boxes for Serial Killer or Victim profiles on the Main Page, then Profile Templates will be generated automatically. Profile Page Titles should be written out: Last Name (in capital letters) First Middle, e.g., "BUNDY Theodore Robert".

  1. Open Edit Mode in Source Editor.
  2. Find Preload template. You can find all of the templates in a drop-down list on the left side of the editor's Save button:
    Preloadedtemplate
  • Categories: The most common Categories are added automatically when using a preloaded template. You can find them at the bottom of the published page. You can add some of your own that you feel are important if they are missing. If you feel an important Category is missing in the automatic template, you can request it be added by contacting an administrator. If any other questions or suggestions arise, please do not hesitate to ask.
  • Gallery pages are created by clicking the Gallery link under the profile picture in the infobox. When you add a new profile, the link will be generated automatically (as long as you use the preloaded template). Through this link, you can later click and create a Gallery page. Once clicked, use the template Gallery and start adding images.
  • Unknown Victims: If a victim is unknown, when creating the link or title for the Victim profile, use "John Doe (Gacy Victim)" for a male victim of John Gacy or "Jane Doe (Little Victim)" for a female victim of Samuel Little.
  • Fictional Serial Killers are only allowed if the character's creator(s) were inspired by real-life serial killers. When adding a fictional character, end the page title with "(Fictional)," e.g., "Jame Gumb (Fictional)," and use the template fictional (not a preloaded template).

If you have any problems with the drop-down list, you may use the cheat sheet below to find the template you need. They are listed just like they are listed in the drop-down list and can be copied and pasted wherever you need them.

Template for Serial Killer Profiles[]

Some help text can be found (e.g., <!--Preloaded templates: Identified or Unidentified-->). These are there to indicate which preloaded templates to use in that specific place and should be removed or overwritten when using the correct template.

Other help text (e.g., <!--Preloaded Template Notice: "Victim List Missing" if the victim list is not present or incomplete-->)) can be removed if you delete the entire section they are indicating.

Note: As the help text shows, the Stub template should be removed if the profile you create is sufficiently detailed or if you edit the page until it is considered comprehensive. Preferably, all sections should be filled in as much as possible..

Personal templates[]

Here are the templates for the infobox.

Identified Serial Killers[]

Use whichever Template applies to the Serial Killer you're adding:

Identified
Unidentified

Criminal status[]

Use whichever template applies to the serial killer you're adding:

Arrested
Incarcerated
Deceased
Executed
<!--add Release reason here-->
Acquitted
Unknown
  • For Released, replace <!--add Release reason here--> with your text. Simply writing 'Released' is sufficient.
  • The Unknown template can be used if the serial killer is unidentified. It can also be used for the Full Name. More often than not, it's used in both places simultaneously.

Birth date[]

Use numerical values for this template. will generate "June 16, 1986 (age 38)".

Is used, together with the Death date template, if the individual is deceased.

Use numerical values for this template. will generate "June 16, 1986".

Death date[]

Use numerical values for this template. will generate "June 28, 2024 (aged 38)".

Gender[]

Male
Female

A template for transgender people does not exist since there are so few of them. If needed, please use Transwoman as well as (to generate the category) for now, and if the need or desire arises in the future, a template will be made.

Race/Ethnicity[]

White
Black
Hispanic
Asian
MiddleEast
<!--add Release reason here-->

The OtherRace template is usually, but not exclusively, used for Native Americans, Native Hawaiians, or Turkic people.

More Page options[]

You can add or remove however many Image3/4/5...jpg|Name #3/4/5...|link=Name #3/4/5... is needed.

</gallery>

Use this template when you create a Gallery page.

Replace File:Male.png with the image you have uploaded. Replace |Text with whatever caption you want. This can be removed entirely if no text is written.

Note: You can add or remove however many File:Male.png|Text is needed.

Image[]

or...

  • There must be a caption in order to use (3) and (4).
  • (1) will work whether there is a caption or not, using the defaults for (3) and (4).
  • (3) and (4) can be interchangeable, but only if (2) is defined. The caption must be the second variable.
  • When aligned to the left, bullet points will "invade" the border (for reasons I can't fathom) and make things look stupid. So, avoid this template near bullet points unless aligning to the right. To see an example, try moving the working example at the top of this page around.

Citation & Reference templates[]

Ref web[]

Read Template:Cite web/doc for more information on usage and required/optional parameters.

The name="#" in

Gives:

Not to be confused with the unrelated serial killer, commonly known as the "Night Stalker", Richard Ramirez.

Main[]

Your own text[]
:Try your own text

If you don't want to use either "Not to be confused with..." or "For the serial killer", and instead want to use your own text, simply use ":", which will give you:

Try your own text.

You can make your text italic using and give it any links you want.

Example:

:Try your own text, and try a link to Jeff Dahmer.

Gives:

Try your own text, and try a link to Jeff Dahmer.
