Case details[]
In 2019, activists working for the "Kobylyaki. Shot in Orsha" group started researching various newspaper archives for security agencies involved in Stalinist repressions.[1] While searching through said documents, they discovered a document from a NKVD official in which he instructed a police captain in the city of Orsha, in the Byelorusian SSR, to investigate the murders of at least seven young women and the disappearance of four others between the years of 1939 and 1940.[1]
According to the document, all victims had had their throats cut with a knife and had a scarf or rag wrapped around their necks.[1] Their skirts and one nylon stocking were removed, but none were raped or robbed. Despite instructions to the captain to investigate and solve the crimes as quickly as possible, there is currently no documentation to indicate whether the killer was caught or not, leaving the outcome of the case a mystery.[1]
