Biography[]
Early life[]
Charles Chi-Tat Ng (/ɪŋ/ ing) was born on December 24, 1960, in British Hong Kong. His early life was marked by instability and family troubles. His parents divorced when he was a child, and Ng moved with his mother to the United States. As a teenager, he displayed behavioral issues and engaged in criminal activities.
Military Service and Criminal Beginnings[]
Ng joined the Marines in the late 1970s but was soon discharged due to his erratic behavior and criminal activities. In 1982, he crossed paths with Leonard Lake, beginning a partnership that would result in one of the most infamous crime sprees in American history.
The Partnership with Leonard Lake[]
Lake and Ng formed a disturbing alliance, sharing a fascination with sadistic fantasies and a desire to realize them. In the early 1980s, they embarked on a spree of kidnappings, sexual assaults, torture, and murders, with the crimes culminating at a remote cabin in Calaveras County, California.
Crimes and Capture[]
Between 1983 and 1985, Ng participated in the abduction and murder of numerous individuals, often couples or families. The crimes were meticulously documented on videotapes. Ng's involvement came to an end in 1985 when he was arrested in Canada. Extradited to the United States, he faced charges related to the sex-slave killings.
Trial and Sentencing[]
Charles Ng's trial was a prolonged and complicated legal process. He faced numerous charges, including multiple counts of murder, kidnapping, and theft. Ng represented himself during the trial, creating additional challenges. In 1999, he was convicted of 11 murders and sentenced to death.
Life on Death Row[]
Charles Ng is currently on death row in California's San Quentin State Prison, and have spent his time filing numerous appeals to overturn his sentence. Despite his legal maneuvers, his convictions and death sentence have been upheld.
