Thomas Donald Bruce McArthur was born on October 8, 1951, in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada. Little is publicly known about his early life and upbringing.

Career and Personal Life[]

Before his criminal activities came to light, McArthur worked as a landscaper in the Toronto area. He was also active in the LGBTQ+ community and frequented the Church and Wellesley neighborhood, known as Toronto's gay village.

Criminal Activities[]

Bruce McArthur's criminal activities came to light in 2017 when he was arrested for the murders of several men, many of whom had connections to Toronto's gay community. His victims included Skandaraj Navaratnam, Abdulbasir Faizi, Majeed Kayhan, Soroush Mahmudi, Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam, Dean Lisowick, Selim Esen, and Andrew Kinsman.

Modus Operandi[]

McArthur's victims were targeted based on their connections to the LGBTQ+ community. He lured these men with the promise of employment, friendship, or romantic encounters, and subsequently murdered them. The crimes took place between 2010 and 2017.

Investigation and Arrest[]

The Toronto Police Service initiated an investigation named Project Prism after the disappearance of Andrew Kinsman. McArthur was arrested on January 18, 2018, and a search of his apartment and the properties he had access to uncovered evidence linking him to the murders.

Guilty Plea and Sentencing[]

In January 2019, Bruce McArthur pleaded guilty to eight counts of first-degree murder. The court sentenced him to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
