- Zekka (絶歌) (Japanese), released in June 2015 when Sakakibara was 32, recounts his crimes in graphic detail, coupled with claims of remorse. Despite efforts by Jun Hase's family to block the publication, and one bookstore chain's refusal to stock it, the book quickly became a bestseller in Japan. Not long after, Sakakibara launched a website featuring bizarre, photoshopped images of a nude male, believed to be himself. The controversy led the tabloid Shūkan Post to expose his real identity as Shinichiro Azuma, along with his location and occupation at the time.
