
Biography[]
Howard Allen grew up as a brother to 8 siblings. He lived in a poor household with a single mom. He often had to steal food to be able to feed his family. He was found as mentally slow (he struggled to process verbal language and had low problem solving skills). It was undecided if Allen had any mental disorders due to many friends and family members had said that he was an average student even though he was at a 2nd grade reading level by the time he graduated elementary school and he also had an average IQ of 107.

Timeline[]
Feb. 10, 1949- Howard Arthur Allen was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S.
Aug. 1974- He beat 85-year-old Opal Cooper to death while he was robbing her home.
1985- He was released on parole.
May 18, 1987- He beat 87-year-old Laverne Hale while robbing her home. She died 9 days later in the hospital.
May 18. 1987- Assaulted a 73-year-old women.
June 2, 1987- He burglarized the house of an elderly man and burnt his house down.
June 11, 1988- He was sentence to death for death for the murder of Ernestine Griffin. He had a 50 year sentence for robbery with serious bodily injury and 38 years for theft.
Aug. 30, 1988- He was placed on death row, but 25 years later was taken off due to a U.S. district court on a petition for writ of habeas corpus.
June 5, 2020- He died at 71 in Wabash Valley Correctional Facility, Haddon Township, Indiana.
